howdy, howdy, howdy says I from my post op position. I am upright, in a back brace known as the parachute (yep, has 2 'rip cords' for cinching up this buttercup into place) and then I am placed into a quad named Wanda provided to me for ambulating about with extra stability (aka a walker) I look like a middle aged milk maid as the brace covers the pj top and my bosom topples over the top. my pj bottoms cover the bottom edge of the brace. okay, yes, i've got to provide pictures. I know that you are drooling for the dirty, sloppy details....uh....don't hold your breath. LOL!
yes, virginia.....i had a 2 level spinal fusion on the 24th of October. I was in the hospital for 8 days due to out of control pain but am now happily home and dealing with the wonders of the porta potty and bathing assistance. Did you know that the porta potty comes apart and can serve as a seat in the shower. Quite comfy actually. After 2 weeks at home now I am a pro at the showering part and need help only with lower body dressing due to some residual nerve pain and weakness in my left leg. yes, i still put on my pants one leg at a time.
the highlights and lowlights of this week were:
Lowlight: I spilled a perfectly lovely cold glass of water that I had managed to serve myself onto my keyboard and fried it. Those of you waiting to hear from me, I should be back up tomorrow and have the energy to wrap up pending correspondence.
Lowlight: my caregiver shows up randomly and on her own time.....had to let her go. with 2 of us ill/incapacitated this just wasn't working....ya know? Having been an LvN caregiver myself, i find myself wondering as I wander about in my little quad coupe.....what has happened to the quality of in home care. I would never have shown up without a name badge and without a field intake being taken and opening paperwork complete. I guess fly by night companies know how to exploit ill folks in desperate need of care by providing the help first and having them just show up then worrying about the paperwork later. NEVER, ever allow someone into your home who cannot provide proper ID and whose name and qualifications haven't been presented and confirmed by a licensed field intake officer. Make sure all employees are not only background checked, but also fingerprinted. The care agency should be licensed and bonded. ALSO: know the chain of command if something goes wrong and you are not left without the help you need. It can feel scary and desperate while waiting in limbo for help but don't cave in that 'this is the only game in town' speak up for yourself, let family members help until you do get what you need. Right now, I am waiting for a phone call to change what was fast becoming an untenable situation. I will keep you posted.
Highlight: I was able to put a loose sock on my bad foot
Highlight: I walked to my mailbox and back yesterday.
Highlight: I slept for 3.5 hours in a single pop last night. Woot!
My etsy shop is open and I have had the pleasure of speaking with some international customers via convo, from Finland and Estonia. How exciting that shipping to those places isn't nearly as complex as I once thought. Even more exciting that these new acquaintences indulge in the same gilty pleasures as I do.
They are asking for silvery chrome trays with rhinestones, old metal buttons, long strings of pearls, and vanity trinket boxes, perfume and lotions cradles in gold and brass and the like.
SOoooo, I am in the process of photographing and uploading to my FLICkr acct many of the treasures that I have acquired over the last 6 mos. It will take my wobbly self awhile to do this so I hope that you will check both the shop at www.highdesertrose.etsy.com and my flickr HighDesertRose page.
I love to learn how to stage the scene for nice pictures to share. Would you share your opines with me as well as ideas as to how to improve the shots. Also, tell me what you want to see and what you don't like. This is how I best learn.
Anywho, Rose hasn't lost her passion for the gilt or her interest in collecting, learning and making new friends.
Just a little perplexed and at times indisposed during her convalescense.
drop a line when you can.
Giltily,
